If you buy Dell, go for the Latitude. The Inspiron is the "budget" line. They'll use whatever components are cheapest the day your machine is built so there's no telling what it will come with. The Latitude, while more expensive, is a guaranteed configuration.

My team had 3 Inspirons between us, purchased four months apart. My CD/floppy drive went dead every 4 months or so. Never a problem for the other machines.

A hardware guy who's opinion I trust a lot says the Vaio is the best bang for the buck right now.

>I have at work a SONY VAIO GRV550 laptop, which I like, but it is the business'. I am thinking about buying my own personal laptop and am wondering what the best one would be? The Sony laptop doesn't seem to read some CD's. We took it to a client and it could see nothing. We put the CD on another machine and it saw everything. I can't have a Notebook that is unreliable like the SONY was. Anyone got any ideas. How about the DELL Inspiron? Is that the best as far as reliability?
