You're right, Tom, it IS strange, especially that basically only the two instances (yours and Marcus') persist (that we're hearing of) after doing the 'standard' actions.

Since both of you have tried other machines as servers I guess we can also rule out bad spot(s) on a HD or a bad NIC. But that does bring up one other (remote) possiblilty... apparently newer NICs have a 'sleep mode' or some kind of auto power-off feature that is detectable/turn-offable in it's Properties. Might be worth at least a check on that. Who knows!?

good luck and keep at it, and be sure to let us all know when you do figure it out.

>Hi Jim - Thanks Jim for the links. I think you mentioned this earlier and I had put it on the back burner. You are very right on your opinion of W98. Good for its time but that's long past. I am going to check these out. Take care. Does seem very strange though that this problem persists through W2k pro, and xp pro and w2003 Server editions. Is this MS way to move us off VFP? :) or is it :( I guess my sense of humor is getting sicker by the day with this particular problem. Have a great day and thanks again. Tom

>>>Hi Jim - Ironically we ran a test this morning, moving from VFP 7.0 to VFP 8.0. Used Windows 2000 Server as the file server. Work stations were Windows 98 and Windows XP Professional. The upgrade had no effect on the problem. 1st user in received excellent response time, subsequent users coming on suffered a slow response (30-40 seconds before we got a logon screen, 12 seconds to refresh a form after a find. This article looks interesting and I too will be following up. The only solution thus far has been Windows 98 as the file server. Doesn't make any difference if it is a VFP 7 or VFP 8 executable.
>>>
>>>I was glad to see you bring this up again because I had just about given up hope. Next step I guess is to talk to Microsoft directly.
