Hi David,

Yes, sorry, that would be important information, wouldn't it? Version 7.0. I have not seen it in Version 6.0, and have not tested it for Version 8.0.

The three of us have tried to concoct all manner of strings containing variation of CHR( 13) + CHR( 10 ) to see if we can isolate a string patter that causes the error. So far no luck. We know the string must have at least one CHR( 13 ) or CHR( 10 ) for the fault to occur. Beyond that, we have not been able to isolate a pattern.

I have added trap code to all of the 96 instances in which we use ALINES() in our current application. Eventually the pattern will emerge. I suspect it is a combination of the string being passed to ALINES() and an external condition that I have not yet identified.

We use a lot of ALINES() calls, but did not encounter this problem before switching to Ver 7.0 last year, and it has taken a lot of time to isolate the code from which the C0000005 error is thrown. Rarely is it any code but a call to ALINES().
