There are all sorts of ways of doing that, but the 'blinking' label is, in my experience, not popular with end users and, as you can tell form the response of others, nor is it popular with developers. My personal preference would be, depending on the situation, to either pop up a form with a "to-do list" that will allow the user to select an item and navigate directly tot the correct location, or to simply change the color of the label (and associated text fields) to indicate that they must be dealt with.

What exactly is the 'event' you are trying to deal with?
