But what hosting company guarantees delivery like certified or registered mail does?

I lost my bills I mailed for over a year once due to a postal inspection of a Delta airlines employee. They confiscated my mail and did not inform me until the investigation was over when they returned my mail to me. I had already stopped payment on all of the checks (months ago by this time) and needless to say, I was rather surprised to receive a package from the U.S. Postal Service containing my bills I mailed so long ago that never reached their recipient! I remember the snickers I heard on the phone when I called the companies to verify my account status and I told them that I had mailed the check over a month ago. Ha ha. I'm sure they heard that one before. I didn't even realize none of them went anywhere until I received the next month's statements and none of my payments were listed. When I received the package in the mail eventually, luckily my neighbor (and friend) is the Postmaster General here and she typed official U.S. Postal Service letters for me to my old creditors for the record.

>>Just logged onto UT and saw the article with same title. A fair question.

>Interesting timing. I would have never agreed with this...until last week.

>The hosting company I use ran afoul of the 800-lb gorilla (AOL) during the SoBig virus. To make a long story short, AOL blocked all mail eminating from ANYONE at the hosting company. (Yes, I know it's a cheap host, but that's why I use it) And it was not an insignificant number of people who were no longer allowed to communicate with AOL users.

>This went on for over a week, with many people who run small businesses on these servers losing income..not to mention being out of touch with family (me) and friends. With the exception of a very few accounts, the vast majority of us had done nothing.
>
>Which - during the course of the heated pleas with the host to DO SOMETHING - raised the question: What if Cleveland (AOL) got mad at Detroit (Cheap Host) because the Motor City had several mass "snail-mailers" that caused their postal workers to complain....and announced they would now leave ALL MAIL FROM DETROIT ON THE TRUCKS?
>
>Now I am beginning to wonder where this will all go. Yes, we need to eliminate spam, but not at the expense of valued communications.
