FYI. We demoed an existing template (8 pages long, most of it being VBA code) vs a template where the logic is controlled by a VB program. The existing method generated 20 letters in 10m38s, the second, the suggested method 20 letters in less than 5 seconds... We also repeated to him what we said all along: the logic should be on the mainframe.

We gave the Client an estimate on how long it will take to convert their templates (2 persons for 6 months) and they will wait until their staff's estimate on how it would take to perform the changes on the mainframe before they make a decision. I expect their staff won't want to do it and will give them an overinflated estimate.

One good thing that may come out of this is that we may be able to subcontract the work to junior programmer's that we trust (read Daniel's wife and my son) and find something interesting for us to do!
