Title:
Getting column remarks from SQLCOLUMNS()
Hey all,
I have a slick tool for generating database dictionaries for DB/2 databases. SQLCOLUMNS() and SQLTABLES() return a rich amount of info in a very usable format.
I decided to make the tool work for SQL Server, but lo and behold, the Remarks field returned by SQLCOLUMNS() is always NULL (even when I have descriptions entered). Highly annoying.
What are other people doing to generate nice database documentation for their SQL Server databases? Am I missing a report generator within Enterprise Manager, or is there some third-party tool? I can't believe Remarks aren't returned in SQLCOLUMNS(). Arg! Why is the SQL Server ODBC driver so braindead?
Thanks,
Joe Kaufman
