During the recent heat wave in Europe, over 11,000 people died in France due to the relatively high temperatures. Jacques Chirac President of France, leveled a criticism at the public, saying many elderly victims "died alone in their homes."

It seems strange that his criticism did not come until after his vacation in Canada had concluded. Could you say that the President of France should be criticized for being quiet during this event? It seems that leaders should be just that! Get out and lead and not criticize after the fact.

Consider how many people died in the recent war in Iraq, and the avoidance given by France. Then consider this tragedy of so many dieing from the heat. Oh well, one should choose ones battles. In this case neglect from the French President and the French Health Care System resulted in a catastrophe. I listened to a French Doctor condemn the cuts in health care throughout France.

Somehow our world leaders do not seem interested in taking care of the people they represent unless it pleases them. When it is nearing time for an election then get out and kiss a few babies. That will surely touch the hearts of the electorate! I see little difference in the actions of leaders in the United States, France, North Korea, or any other nation. I think the leaders of nations come from the same school: Me first, last and always!
