>We get the spreadsheet data from an external source. We don't normally check the formats during the import. The file is received and then imported. It worked correctly for a few weeks, but recently we had a problem. When I stepped through it using the debugger, I noticed the value 1015617 was seen as 08/29/468. I was just trying to set a variable to the value in the spreadsheet.

I don't know. I never use import. Instead I save the file as type dbaseIII from excel (either via automation or manually) and open saved dbf.
