Summer vacation is over and it’s time to resume our GRAFUG meetings. The September 2003 GRAFUG meeting will be held this Saturday, September 13, 2003, from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. I (Cathy Pountney) will be presenting, “Implementing a File Factory”. I’m practicing this session for GLGDW and I welcome all feedback. Of course, I better spend a few late nights this week and finish the session before Saturday!!

Implementing a File Factory
---------------------------
Have you ever had a need to manage the distribution of free tables or loose files along with your application? Have you struggled with version control of those files? Have you wondered how you can distribute loose files on individual workstations and not have a nightmare each time you upgrade your application? All these questions and problems can be solved with a File Factory. This session explains the concept of a File Factory and the advantages of using one within your application. More importantly, this session explains exactly how to design and code a File Factory Maintenance Utility and how to create the classes required to retrieve files stored within the File Factory.

Attendees will learn how to...
1. Identify when a File Factory is advantageous
2. Create a developer maintenance utility for storing files within a File Factory
3. Retrieve files stored in the File Factory for use within your application
4. Ensure the most up-to-date files are stored on each workstation
