I need to connect to a SQL database on a remote server. There is only one aspect that I am having trouble with: In the ODBC manager, there is a place for the erver name, what is the syntax for describing the remote server?

Also, when the connection is used, will ODBC actually make the connection or does one have to establish a VPN (or other) connection manyally before the ODBC connection will work?
