Ric,
I think you hit one the most obscure errors :( From your point it seems what you can do is to check ODBC versions.
PS: With buffering set to 3 (which is default for views - you didn't have a need to set explicily) any movement of record pointer causes an impplicit tableupdate - IOW return results from tableupdate(.t.) might be misguiding.
