I have no pearls of wisdom to add to your message, but just wanted to thank you for giving Steve an answer that is actual relevant to his needs. From some of his past threads it's obvious he is in a situation that many of us would find daunting, but he is still willing to move forward and do what he needs to in order to continue working. You gave him a start.

Cgi-bin is the name of the script directory used in Unix/Linux machines before Microsoft discovered the internet. I think IIS uses another name for its asp scripts, but the directory is essentially the same as a cgi-bin directory. Directories used by the others you listed are the equilvalent of the cgi-bin directory.
