I take by your "slow moving conversion" comment that the Fox2x app is slowly being converted to a VFP app. If that is the case, then I assume you really are trying to minimize the amount of work put into the existing Fox2x app. If that is the case, then, IMHO, it is easier to have the current VFP app be the driving force in initiating your reporting actions. Is there anything in the Fox2x app that the VFP app could "look for" that would trigger its actions? I think trying to go from the Fox2x app to VFP would be more effort than it may be worth.
