Is there a way to 'globally' search all the controls in a form or project to replace this name?

If you are using VFP 8, you can use Code References (under the Tools menu) to do this.

If you are using an earlier version and have a copy of 1001 Things You Wanted to Know About Visual FoxPro we have a little finder form in Chapter 12 that does this.
