There are a number of us that have built and are building our own frameworks (for various reasons). I feel that most frameworks come with too much baggage and functionality that I will never use. Of course this is functionality that I don't need and other may require. Personally, I feel that a framework should be simple enough that even a person without OOP experience should get the drift of what is going on. It should increase the productivity of the developer, and should lower the cost of maintanence.
That said, I have tested a few commercial frameworks, and they are very good. I don't rule out the fact that a project may come my way where it will make sense to move to a commerical framework.
I think to exactly recreate/duplicate VPM or VFE do is a waste of effort but to develop one's own if definitely not.
Of course, IMHO. :-)
