Let me say that I am all for HTML Help - there are many advantages, particularly if all the necessary OS components (IE) are installed.

Consider the following problem:

You have an application that you can market to many corporate clients each of which has many end users. Some of the users have the IE components installed while others don't because they are still using the original Win95 and have not yet upgraded to OSR2 (or Win98). Furthermore, some corporate clients have no intention of upgrading for whatever reason.

Would you continue to use WinHelp for your application or go for the "full-blown" HTML Help and attempt to convince IS managers to upgrade hundreds of copies of Win95?

How do you think MS would answer that question?

I'm also a programmer, and I don't feel insulted by the article. I really don't understand why you feel insulted, if it doesn't feel right for you just don't use MS HTML Help.
> Secondly, the article states that you have to install IE 3.0 or 4.0 FOR ALL FEATURES TO WORK. It goes on to claim that since is HTML, you can still use it on other browsers, but with none of the MS-exclusive extras. You see vendors doing this in all industries, I really don't see anything particular about it.
