I think this is a matter of personal choice. Personally, I don't prefix field names with their type, but I do prefix variables with the type. My guess is that those of us who have been around since the days of 8-character field names don't prefix them because space was precious .. and old habits are hard to break. For those who are newer to developing and have always had long variable names, space has never been an issue so they may favor longer names.
