Evaluation of the debate:

It should have begun with the music, “Send in the Clowns”, to set the tone of the debate.

The participants were Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, , independent candidate Arianna Huffington, Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock and Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger with moderator Stan Statham.

1. Moderator Stan Statham. Should have stayed at home where he might have been more effective. This fellow seemed unable to moderate a meeting of crushed worms.


2. Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante. Lacked enthusiasm and seemed to be on Prozac.


3. Green Party candidate Peter Camejo. Had memorized a few points he continually brought up and is not comfortable in front of an audience.


4. Independent candidate Arianna Huffington. Was she on the television series “Dallas”? This “lady” has a sharp tongue and states facts incorrectly.


5. Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock, upset a number of people as his thinking is his own. He thinks like a Republican in a Democratic state. The Republicans do not like him as they have decided only Arnold “can save the day”.


6. Oh yes, speaking of Arnold, he seemed to still be on steroids. He memorized a few one-liners that were published in the New York Times a few weeks ago. He and Arianna spend a good deal of time putting each other down. By the way Arnold seems more like a Democrat than a Republican.

Mayor Willie Brown of San Francisco later stated, “Gray Davis should have been at the debate”! I agree. However, as Pete Wilson (not the ex Governor) of television channel 7 (ABC) said, “Governor Davis was not invited to attend”!

In all I think that Governor Davis is now in a better position after hearing the clowns debate. Davis knows the facts, which the clowns are unable to discuss or articulate. Having five clowns argue with each other is not what I would call a debate. Boxing gloves would have helped. What a group! What an event! The "best" is yet to come.
