1e4 é o mesmo que 10000, em notação científica (1 x 10^4).
Outro exemplo: 2,3 millhões = 2.3e6 (2.3 x 10^6).
Potencia quer dizer, multiplicação repetitiva. 10^6 = 10x10x10x10x10x10 (6 vezes). Normalmente, isto se escreve como 10
6, mas nos linguagems de computadora isto não é possível, e se escreve 10^6.
