So I guess that means that it is German afterall? :o) My cousin was right then (I thought it was Dutch, maybe Swedish, Finnish, or Danish) although I was repeating the spelling as I remembered it, and being 43 it is no wonder I got it wrong! :o) Either that or it is simply because I am an ignorant Norwegian :o) *G* (There are virtually no racial jokes in Wisconsin but many ethnic jokes between the Poles, Germans, Norwegians, and Fins all in good fun)

>Sorry for the confusion, but I'm glad you understand. When I saw "Gehandchen" in your response it got me wondering if I had not remembered it correctly. I just called my aunt who lives in Buffalo and she said it was "Gehenghen" not "Genghen." That is so close I wonder if they're really the same? Many names were changed as people came to the country. I'm also surprised about the "Johengen" name being well known up in WI. I really thought there were just a few handfuls of us around the country.

>>I have no problem with whatever name you've used on the UT. In my opinion nicknames are always acceptable regardless. You've been posting for a long time. At least you've kept the same login. I forgot mine overtime and had to create new ones a few times to get back on. I just felt alittle silly because, not knowing you personally, I have addressed all of my posts to you as 'Hi Renoir.' I never realized that Renoir was a nickname nor that your lastname was not even Vandalet! I get the joke, but I never knew it was a joke until today! :o) I'm surprised that your name is actually Johengen because that is a name known in Wisconsin where I grew up. I thought it was Dutch but many think German? I have a cousin who married a Johengen and swears it is an americanization of the German name Gehandchen. I don't really know, but I found it interesting nonetheless. Well, with a maiden name of Skogen I would... :o)

>>>Tracy,
>>>
>>>I have been called "Renoir" by various people in my life since college. The "Vandalet" is a Seinfeld joke regarding "Vandalet Industries." The name I use on most documents is "Jay Johengen" but even that isn't the whole truth. My give name is "Nelson." Oh, wait, on my birth certificate it is actually "Genghen" but it was changed when I was four years old. Now, the reasons for that are personal. When I first joined UT I had no idea that it was an on-the-up-and-up site and so I started using "Vandalet." After being here awhile it was just simpler to keep it that way. Anytime I have dealt with any members outside the public forums I have used "Jay Johengen" well, except just recently in a private message to JVP, and that was just really to irk him. My address, email and other account information has always been valid. I have alway only used one account since my first visit here in 1998. It is true that the first name is a nickname I'm known by and the last name is fabricated. Really
>>>don't see the probelem with it as I believe that the rules regarding "bogus" accounts are to make sure that someone doesn't create duplicate accounts and try to manipulate threads or flame anonymously. I would really like to hear feedback on this, from those I've dealt with here outside the forums and especially John's.
