What I've done was to add 1,2 empty new records, delete those empty records and then pack the table.
I remember that, sometimes, instead of empty record, a valid record magically appeared. In such a case, I was appened until a empty record appeared (I think that the record counter in table header was not properly incremented after the record was added) .
