I don't know about NT4 but I do think there is another solution than a Windows server OS that is simpler and cheaper. It is a standalone file server hardware.

The SNAP! server costs around $500 (USD) and, as I undersand it, effectively removes the limit all by itself with no added costs.

By the way, the 10 connections limit is exactly that - "connections". I believe that a printer counts as one, individual mapped paths as one each, etc.
