Nature of Application:

Major Components;

1. Interupt driven data acquisition on a front-end embedded system receiving real-time data ~ 2K bytes per second

2. Data acquisition runs continuously non-stop throughout the year.

3. Networked application with ~25 PC Users connected at any one time.

4. Real-time event driven data parsing on PC side currently part of User Interface. We want to separate this portion into an application which runs by itself.

5. User Interface includes multi-lingual (English, French, ... etc.) support. There is extensive use of ActiveX controls for graphing, and tables with multi colored grids for real-time display

6. Current database size is ~ 1Gb

7. Most Users will use P166 with 32Mb.

8. Sales people will use P133 laptops with 16Mb.

I need objective reference (published) materials and opinions giving the best tool for the job.

Please specify resources on the Web that give numbers for query speed comparing Jet engine against the Rushmore engine.

It is very important to know much space ( in Mb) are taken up in the distribution disks by Jet engine DLLs.

We are also trying to compare VB5 vs VC++ 5 for the Parsing component.
