Actually usually there isn't cobol files. Cobol programs use files without any header. You must have to know these files field type before open. you can open them with fopen. Character fields easy to open but numeric fields if they binary a bit hard.
Some cobol versions uses a file type data and indexes combined into one file. In that case you have to find a odbc driver or write a cobol routine. :)
