I think to a certain extent, the money and power these people experience corrupts them to a certain extent. I also wonder how many voluntarily corrupt their own belief system in order to curry favor with those in power in that biz. Some of it is our fault as well because we continue to "consume" what they are dishing out. There is hope in recent years because we are at least getting some quality family-oriented movies and shows now. Shrek, Ice Age, Nemo, Seabiscuit, etc., are all movies I have enjoyed with my wife and/or kids.
