>Looking at that full statement, I say this whole thing is way overblown. This is a shot at a perceived media bias and also an opinion about the team's defense being largely credited for the team's past success. Can anyone honestly say McNabb has had a good season so far? If the media has not admitted that McNabb has played mostly poorly this year, then they have indeed been biased. Did anyone honestly think the Cowboys would have a better record than the Eagles after the first month of games? The Cowboys were 5 and 11 for the 3rd straight season last year, and the Eagles played Superbowl Champ Tampa Bay in the NFC Championship game last year.

The comment about McNabb being overrated was fair, whether you agree or not, and certainly deserved given the first two games. Where Limbaugh went across the line was in suggesting that there's a _media_ scheme (conspiracy?) to give McNabb more credit than he deserves because he's a black quarterback.

I have no doubt that there are many individuals, especially blacks, rooting for McNabb (and McNair and Vick) to do well because they're black and they feel it would reflect well on the black community.

I've been involved in the Jewish community long enough to know that the reaction to many news items is "Is it good for the Jews?" We're proud when a Jew does well, especially in an area that's not known for Jewish involvement (think Sandy Koufax) and embarrassed when a Jew gets in trouble (think Rabbi Fred Neulander).

But what individuals think is different than implying that the press, as a group, is puffing the guy up because he's black (or Jewish or polka-dotted). I read a good piece on this yesterday. Here we go: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2003/writers/peter_king/09/30/mcnabb_limbaugh/
