>And are you now saying that SQL Server is of no value to the Fox Community? Are you now saying that only pure Fox topics are what counts? Jim Duffy has been speaking primarily on SQL Server - and yet that seems to count.

Jim does other things too, like VFP training. Not sure how many times I have to tell you that the award is not based on one activity only, it is a summation of efforts.

>Did he author the content? No - but he facilitates it getting published. That goes to influence. When he speaks at a show - he is contributing content. Finally, I do believe you have at least 1 magazine editor (or perhaps co-editor) among the VFP MVP ranks.

Anyone in the VFP MVP list who does editor efforts does other things around VFP as well. I don't know why you are arguing small items one by one rather than the overall, the main topic at hand. I get the sense you just enjoy debating facts individually. :)

>No new features? So what you are saying is that if Rod had taken the 5 minutes it would have taken to add a VFP wish list section - that would count as a new feature.

It took much more than 5 minutes, it is based on a specific XML schema, must be tested, etc. But even if it did take 5 minutes, the answer would be "YES", it would count. If foxforum.com added 20% of the new UT features or half of the new ones of leafe.com this past year, this might be a different conversation.

>Every month - there is a bill that comes in that has to be paid for the hardware - the Internet access, etc. He does this as a contribution to the community. This one thing you seem to be blowing over constantly.

Yes, I am blowing over this issue constantly, and intentionally. This is not community activity in our definition.

>Fine, Rod was nominated by one or more people. Whats your point?

Usually when someone is nominated, other people agree, both in the community and on the VFP team. No other point than that.

>Oh - so now the MVP IS guided by external opinion. A few posts ago, you tried to clarify that point by saying external opinion did not matter. Which is it? Last I heard, MS was the sole determinant. I was not aware that what the Fox community wanted or expected was a driving force in the matter.

The answer is both, or at least with feedback from external community.

>The more you write - the more you contradict yourself. Its like that time when you tried to defend why new features never go into service packs. That debate did not go so well either...
>Your desire is to be consistient - but the process is anything but consistient - at least in this case.

I see that your goal is not about this topic, but just debating tactics and winning an argument for the point of it. So don't expect to receive a reply from me on this topic. I've posted what I have posted mainly because I think it is good for VFP community members reading the thread to know more about the MVP program which is a good thing.

Comment: A few months ago, Rod Paddock and I went to dinner together in Seattle, then we cruised over and saw the movie A Mighty Wind. Of the VFP MVPs who are also my friends, I would list Rod at least a good of a friend than any of them. And more recently I was at his house hanging out for diner and a funny documentary movie. So trust me when I say that I would really like to see Rod be an MVP sometime, and I have to set aside personal bias towards him when discussing it with the team. Rod is an awesome guy, both as a friend and in the industry (VFP, SQL, .NET communities), so nobody reading this should think otherwise.
