Hanging up is actually the worst thing you can do. Your number will simply recycle in the list and you'll be called by the same company again. You should add "Place me on your do not call list", then you can hang up.


It also helps to mention that you wish to be on the Do Not Call list for all their affiliates and companies they represent since a telemarketer can do so for many companies... of course many ignore this request anyway.

Then again, being in NY, we don't really have that problem much any more. Our list has been in effect for almost two years (I think, maybe longer) and I must say, it has worked very nicely.
