It looks the problem is related the format of the parameters.

The technical support staff proposed to build an EXE around their lib
from, say, VB and invoke it (the exe) with parameters from VFP...

I prefer to forget about the product at this time and look for
alternatives. The cleaner VFP-compatible solution seams to be
www.activepdf but they're not royalty-free.
