>>My problem is with the fact that many equate addiction to pain killers to addiction to cocaine and other street drugs. I don’t listen to Rush talk show (I find it boring even though I probably would agree with most of what he says). I think one of the tenets of conservatism is morality. And I am not sure I would say that being addicted to pain medication is immoral. It is a sickness. And to his credit he does not deny it now and is willing to treat the disease.

>What's the difference? People who are addicted to any drug, or alcohol, are addicted because they are feeling some kind of pain in their lives, whether it is physical or mental. Do you think that anyone growing up has a dream of being a crack addict?

I think his problem/drug addiction is mitigated by the fact it started with physical ailment and doctor(s) over prescribing the medication (it happens too often, unfortunately).

And I feel just as bad for the person who is addicted to crack or alcohol. In fact, they are in the worse situation than Rush is, since they don't have the resources and intelligence to fight the disease. Although I don't know how their addiction started.

Getting back to Rush's problem. I feel that liberals find his problem to be a joy of their life. As if it could not have happened to the "better" man for them <g>.
