I have run VFP under wine and it has interesting potential. However, at this point I believe a native port of VFP to other platforms would be a much better solution.
I also believe if Office, VFP, and VB were corporations with their own identity, apart from Microsoft and its OS/s, Office, VFP, and VB would have been ported to other platform a long time ago.
If these applications were independent of Microsoft's OS/s, they would not be positioned to serve a limited role within a larger scheme of things, and could more freely evolve to fulfill their full potential.
This is why I believe Microsoft should be split into separate companies; because, as thing now stand, competition is suppressed within the Microsoft family of products, so that Microsoft does not wind up competing with itself.
At the same time Microsoft has a large enough array of software (horizontal integration with OS/s, development apps, and third party app) to control the market in a monopolistic way.
