Last week was an interesting week for the Administration. News programs on television this weekend reviewed the fact that there were four different stories about what we are doing in Iraq, each coming from different members of the Administration. There was almost a fifth story but Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld was silenced. Wolfowitz was not to be found.

It was pointed out that the President, Rice, Powell, and Cheney each had very different approaches to policy in Iraq. They are not reading from the same page. Is there a policy? Or does everyone in the Administration say and do as they please? The American people would like to know what the plans are for Iraq, timetable and list of accomplishments. It was suggested that the President define his policy, and get everyone on the same page. If they cannot follow the Presidents policy they should be removed and replaced.

Also top republicans are saying we did not go to war because of WMD. Tell that to Tony Blair!

The President stated we would rebuild the infrastructure of Iraq, not because of damage during the recent war with Iraq, but because Saddam Hussein allowed it to deteriorate. It has been noted that the infrastructure of the United States has been allowed to deteriorate but that little is done about it.

Some United States military leaders still say we need more men in Iraq. We started a program to pay $500 for every shoulder grenade launcher turned in. They cost $5000 on the black market. There are many stockpiles of weapons and munitions at dumps throughout Iraq and we do not have the manpower to guard them all. So it seems we have problems but the Administration does not acknowledge such things.

Scuttle is that the President will now help California in one form or another, now that we have a Republican elected to office as Governor. There are a few votes in California and buying them seems like good Texas politics, the kind of thing that LBJ and other Texans are famous for. Perhaps Bush will forgive us for not voting for him in the last election.
