>In a radio (not Rush Limbaugh) show this morning I heard someone remark that the U.S. has changed radically since the time that President FDR said 'the only thing we have to fear is fear itself'.
>
>The speaker remarked that President Bush's whole strategy today vis-a-vis the war on terrorism is based wholly, specifically and only on fear itself.
>
>The speaker then went on to discuss how this is leading to the rapid deterioration of civil liberties upon which the U.S. is built and the diminishment of respect for the U.S. around the world, in the process demonstrating the accuracy of President Roosevelt's statement.

although the US is built on civil liberties they have never been fully upheld by the government. the segration people because of their colour on buses, in colleges etc was a prime case. in vietnam black men were more likely to die etc. etc. the list does go on, and now poeple in cuba with no rights and those collected in the US after sept 11 with no reason other than to look like muslims. fear is being forced upon citizins so as to remove the liberties and rights (oh forgot to mention all the black people removed from the florida electorate by bush in the last election...) so that the govt can do what it wants when it wants. the opposition in govt are allowing this as well as everything is deemed to be patriotic and you are not a true american if you do not support every decision made. fear keeps the little poeple little and the rich richer.

>I thought the consideration of FDR's statement in today's context was smart.
