Personally I think it is a lost cause. Having said that, you could ask for a private meeting between the owner/manager and the staff that reported that this was not an isolated incident for you. The staff member should have to justify his statement to you personally in front of the manager.

Now, having said that, if the staff member made that statement publicly in front of club members and now the other club 'members' started talking and they all already have the opinion that the incident is typical and not isolated your only recourse is to play their game and get on the good side of a highly respected member that can plead your case.

Can't believe I said that in the 2nd paragraph, but it has been known to work in social clubs. That's why I stay away from them ALL....not worth the hassle and not anything I want to participate in. Gossip can not only ruin some social positions but also businesses in some circles.
