< Given some and subtracted some; with the sum in negative territory, in my opinion. >
You're entitled to your opinion as much as I'm entitled to mine, which I'm going to share right here.
- I've 'known' John since 1996, and I've heard and seen enough from him to believe that his prime 'agenda' is presenting all the facts. I think the statement made by someone else that 'John is just trying to show that he knows more than anyone' is facile and shallow (as are many negative comments concerning JVP).
- Anyone who says that John's net contributions are in the red is probably unaware of HOW MUCH he's brought to all of us over the years. He's put on many very informative sessions at DevCons, has answered a ton of questions on the thread, has authored very good material, etc. I have an entire folder of answers he and others have provided on this thread, answers that helped me in some way. I can't put a price tag on stuff like that.
And perhaps most important...he always seems very interested in helping someone who has a question or a problem. I know this because I work in the same building with him. I can also state that he has a very good reputation among those who work with him. To me, anyone who thinks John's contributions are a net negative...has really missed out.
I don't agree with every specific statement he's made. My views on VFP are probably different than his, if only marginally. (and I also think his views on VFP have been misunderstood). And that doesn't bother me.
I'm sure I'll get some static for this response...and that's fine.
Just my two copper Lincolns...
