I would guess that you don't have indexes perperly set up on these tables to take advantage of the speed that is built into VFP. If you are simply scanning a 1.5 gig file from beginning to end and doing it over a 10mb network, then it will be slow. If you have indexes set up and only review records for a given customer, even over a 10mb network it sound be quite fast.

Many of my files in our accounting/data collection system are in the 1 gig range and my queries for data are completed in seconds.

So before you move to SQL try optimizing using the tools in VFP.
