as far as i know 5.5 to 2000 is ok but there are either a lot of problems with 5.5 to 2003 or else it is impossible and you have to go through 2000. i know a few poeple who upgraded to 2000 from 5.5 and said that it was handy enough, and that includes one site with 7 exchange servers all linked.
