i asked him if he had and he said that he didn't think so as i was impressed that vfp ran without dll's. he is computer literate so would know if there was something on his system that was vfp. he is a system admin so maybe he has done something inadvertently, i will try to find out

>Maybe your friend has an application which is made in VFP8 installed on his machine? In that case also the runtime files are installed. Remember there are quite a lot of commercial applications available which are made in VFP8.

>>I showed a friend of mine an app that i had written in vfp 8 and copied it onto his machine, he is not a programmer and has never used vfp but it ran first time on his machine. he does keep up to date as regards patches etc so maybe it is implemented as one of those

>>>That is not correct. VFP8R.DLL is the VFP runtime dll and it is required on all operating systems. On NT based operating systems it is stored in %PROGRAMFILES%\%COMMONFILES%\VFP directory.
