>>he is still an MVP (and a fine gentleman, which I know personally).<<
I only encountered him (I'm assuming you mean KP?) in newsgroups.
The first time, he and a certain VFP MVP formed a tag-team to scoff and attack suggestions that VFP's inline parsing provides a huge advantage over VB for web development. Neither of them understood it; their ignorance did not stop them doing the flame thing. I suspect that KP got dragged along by the VFP "expert".
The second time was after dotNYET; he seemed a more humble person. Since he had built huge expertise in low-level COM stuff, dotNET must have dealt him a real blow.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
