That's what I usually do as well. Another approach if you don't have a domain name is to create the new Web site on your client machine and assign it another port. That way you have a fully self contained site rather than a virtual.
Note: this works only with Server versions of the OS. XP and Win2k Pro don't allow for multiple Web sites with IIS.
