Altruism itself may be considered a selfish reason. In our case, if we stand together and help each other, there's a bigger chance that we'll survive the attacks of other languages. This selfish reason is ok, as far as I'm concerned.

No, I'm not referring to your job, don't worry. :)
I'm also not referring to competing for a spot on the MVP roster.
What I mean is that the basic resources should be the same for us all. I recognize that some spend more money and time finding and reading resources and taking courses. This reason and several others explain differences in level of mastery between us all. But the basic resources should be the same, don't you think?
