And interestingly, the VB "native compile" feature was still part smoke screen. It only compiled programs (modules) and not the form code. Or vice-versa???

A lot of VB still ran in a runtime environment. Not true compiled code like you have in a VC++ app. You still had to have a VB runtime to run your app.
