We've had this problem here before. In our case it was Norton Anti-Virus that was doing it. One of the settings in it was to 'scan network drives'. Our source-safe database is on a network drive, so everytime you open a VFP project that was under source-safe it took forever. Unchecking the option in Norton fixed it.
