This sounds a little nuts. But all things are possible in VFP -- even crazy things.
Obviously, your friend is going to have to expose only the source code the user needs to modify, compiling the rest into an .app that the user can include in the user's .exe.
Rather than hard coding an expiry date. Do something like check a web site periodically for an activation key.
We do something similar now to prevent pirating. Alas, the code is so proprietary that now that I've told you it exists, I'll probably have to arrange for your assination.
