The table is automatically opened by the SELECT if it is one of the source tables for the SELECT statement.
If you don't want to leave it open, you need to close it after the SELECT is executed. Normally, there is no harm in leaving it open in the data session -- and it makes the next execution of the SELECT run slightly faster since it does not have to reopen the table.
