I designed a data collection app on Palm (using CASL, and CASL conduit).
We have 4 locations, each having one PC connected to our LAN, and one Palm. The Palm is used to collect data in the field, and then, once a day or so, it ise syncronized with the PC.
Problem is, that the PC is used by more than one user, so there are different logon profiles. If I install the Palm software (and CASL) under one user, the Palm computer will syncronize for that user, but not for another.
The solution that I am thinking about is to create a "Palm" user and install the software under that user, and ask all users to log on as "Palm" when they need to do the sync. I did not test it yet - I hope it will work... But, there are at least two inconveniences: 1.users have to log off and on in order to perform the sync, and 2.we do not want "generic" users for network security reasons.
Another idea could be to do everythimg (installing software and the sync) local, i.e. disconnected from the network. Assuming that will work, it is still inconvenient, because to get the data from the PC to the server the user will have to log on to the network.
I've read about the network sync, but that will probably mean redesigning the app...
Anybody knows how this should be done?
TIA
Doru
