I tried this and it was about 0.4s faster than the current code. That is using SCATTER MEMVAR and INSERT FROM MEMVAR, using a direct INSERT INTO with the fields name wasn't faster.

I ended up still using the COPY TO WHILE but using INSERT INTO SELECT instead of APPEND FROM. This was 0.5s faster than the current code.
