Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone can answer this question. I have a table with a general field. Using the APPEND GENERAL command I place Word, EXCEL, etc. objects in the table. I always use the LINK option. According to the help file, the LINK option only stores a reference to the actual object. I have the general field bound to an OleBoundControl so the user can see the object and then double-click it to open it using the application associated with the object. Since I only store a link in the table (using the LINK keyword), why is the FPT file so large?

When I attach a word document the is 224KB is size the fpt file grows by at least 10 times that! Even after packing the table, the file is quite large. Isn't the whole purpose of LINK to decrease the size of the file and have just a pointer to the actual document?

thanks,
Pat Moran
