Title:
VFP - 2GB Limitation
In today's environment the standard PC is 32 MB of RAM
(and growing) and a 6 GB hard drive (and growing).
VFP has a serious limitation in that a table may not
exceed 2GB. I'm sure that M$ recommended solution is
to upsize to SQL Server. However, my experience is that
SQL Server is slower and much more ackward to work with.
Clearly SQL Server has the benefit of security but
all this comes at a learning curve price.
I would probably not even be looking at SQL Server or
Oracle is VFP could expand this 2BG limitation. I have
heard that this barrier will not be removed in Tahoe (VFP 6).
Does anyone know if the table size constraint will ever
be removed? I have heard there will probably never be a
true VFP compiler because of things like macro expansion,
but I sure wish M$ would expand the 2GB limit.
Any reason why it can not be increased?
